Health Ministry has issued guidelines to be followed by Buddhists when celebrating Vesak amid the COVID-19 outbreak.
The Ministry advised people to engage in religious activities at home and recommended that Dhamma sermons and Pirith chanting be organized using loudspeakers while maintaining social distance.
It also advised people to avoid organising Vesak programmes including Vesak zones, Dansals and pandols where large groups of people gather.
Health Ministry Secretary Bhadrani Jayawardena advised people to avoid unnecessary gatherings outside their homes and avoid venturing out to see vesak decorations.
The ministry also requested those engaged in trades related to Vesak decorations to follow health instructions while maintaining social distance and taking preventive measures to prevent the spread of the disease.
