Veteran musician H.M Jayawardena has passed away at the age of 69 while undergoing treatment at the Colombo South Teaching Hospital – Kalubowila a short while ago, Sri Lanka Singers Association (SLASA) President Keerthi Pasquel confirmed.
He said he had been undergoing treatment at the Kalubowila Hospital for a considerable period of time.
Mr Jayawardena is the husband of late veteran singer Malani Bulathsinhala and the father of renowned singer Kasun Kalhara.
He rendered a fabulous service to Sri Lanka music industry by composing nearly thousands of songs.
Sanda Ahasa Wage, Obata Ma Adaraya Kala Bawa sung by Malani Bulathsinhala, Sanda Tharu Nihadai by W D Amaradewa, Obayi Ramya Sanda Kirana by Nanda Malini, Oba Ha Mema Athinath Aran by T.M. Jayarathna, Eka Yayata Mal by Sanath Nandasiri, Miniseku Pita Nagi by Sunil Edirisinghe, Mala Giraviye by Karunarathna Divulgane, Pancha Kalyaniye by Krishantha Erandaka, Eya yanna Giya by Amarasiri Peiris, Balikaviyan Thaksala Doren by Janaka Wickramasinghe and Eka Yaye Kaka Wati etc, are some of the songs composed by Mr Jayawardena.
The final rites will be held on Wednesday (10) at 3.00 at the Borella General Cemetery. (Sheain Fernandopulle)

One of the greatest Sri Lankans musicians of all time in his generations along with late Mr. Khemadasa and Dr. Rohana Weerasinghe.. He will be surely missed by the classical Sinhala music lovers.
