Chairman of the Elections Commission Mahinda Deshapriya threatened to quit as EC head if a presidential election was conducted without holding the provincial council elections first.
He said that the duty of the Elections Commission was to hold the provincial council elections first and assured the nation that this was what was going to happen.
However, he said, he would leave his post as a mark of protest if the presidential election is held first but assured the public that he would not give up his job as a member of the commission.
The elections commission consists of three members including Mr. Deshapriya who is the Chairman. (Ranjan Kasthuri)
