Two containers containing 24,000 kilos of Beedi wrapper leaves imported declaring as yarn from Chennai, India, were seized by the Customs today.
When examined, 24,000 Kgs of Beedi wrapper leaves valued at Rs.122 million were found inside the containers.
Customs Department said the taxes payable on the Beedi leaves imported in the consignment was more than Rs.100 million. Pix by Nisal Baduge
