Crucial talks between President and Sajith

President Maithripala Sirisena held crucial talks with the UNP presidential candidate nominee Sajith Premadasa on the possibility of forging ties in view of the presidential elections, Daily Mirror learns.

Mr.Premadasa was accompanied by a UNP delegation that also included General Secretary Akila Viraj Kariyawasam. The talks were conducted till late night yesterday. However, there was no report about the outcome of the meeting. The President held similar talks with SLPP candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa last week.

However, the President said he would not support the SLPP unless it changes its lotus bud symbol to contest the elections. Meanwhile, Mr.Premadasa also sought a meeting with the President. (Kelum Bandara)
