The tourist paradise in Sri Lanka, Nuwara –Eliya will get the much-anticipated cable car system linking Nuwara – Eliya Racecourse with the Nanu Oya railway station and Single Tree hill top with each other.
The cable car system will be built on 21 pillars and one cable car would be able to accommodate 10 passengers. At the initial stage, 43 cars will be in operation.
According to the cabinet paper submitted by Plantation Industries Minister Navin Dissanayaka, the first cable car project will be launched as a joint venture at a cost of USD 50 million (Rs. 9 billion approximately) between the local firm Outdoor Engineering Lanka Pvt. Ltd and Doppelmayr Cable Car Ltd in Australia as a BOI project. (Sandun Jayasekera)
