In the midst of a campaign going within the UNP to name its Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa as the party's candidate for the upcoming Presidential Election, its General Secretary Akila Viraj Kariyawasam today said the party should safeguard its leader Ranil Wickremesinghe, who he said had achieved much during recent times.

Minister Kariyawasam made this remark at a ceremony held to distribute compensation to farmers whose crops were destroyed during the recent drought. The event was held in Kurunegala.

"People such as myself have come a long way and have become ministers because of our present leader,” he said.“The Government has been able fulfill many tasks because of him. I have managed to provide so many buildings to schools under the Langama Pasala Hondama Pasala programme,” he added.

“We have been able to open the first digital national school. Also we have been able to provide compensation to farmer whose crops were destroyed due to the recent drought. Therefore we have to safeguard this visionary leader," Mr Kariyawasm said. (Yohan Perera)

Sure, you need to sake guard your leader (not ours) and he has given you a lot of perks. We the masses have no safeguards from anyone except the invisible hand. That too has proved negative with the bomb blasts. Time to look for someone to safeguard yourself.

Mr. Akila Kariyawasam, Don't try to drink decoction without the knowledge of the throat. You know it,I know it, and Every one of them know it, that the best bet in UNP today for the Presidential candidate is "Sajith." Don't try to put entire UNP supporters into trouble by promoting a wrong candidate ,instead get every body together and give Sajith the chance. Face the reality. Thank you.
