ICTA supports INFOTEL 2015 as national partner

Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) has come forward as the National Partner of Sri Lanka’s flagship ICT Expo INFOTEL-2015. 

The exhibition will be held from 20th to 22th November 2015 at the BMICH under the theme of ‘‘Connecting Citizens’’. This event is organized by the Federation of Information Technology Industry of Sri Lanka (FITIS) in collaboration with the Ministry of Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructure Development, Ministry of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Defense Ministry, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and private sector institutions. 

The key objective of this year’s Exhibition is to showcase the latest ICT & Digital innovations, harnessing the best ICT solutions to empower the future growth via multiple carrier guidance events on an ICT platform. 

ICTA, the apex ICT institution of the Government, has been mandated to take all necessary measures to implement the Government’s Policy and Action Plan in relation to ICT industry. ICTA is required to assist the Cabinet of Ministers in the formulation of the National Policy on ICT and provide all information necessary for its formulation.  ICTA, which is wholly owned by the Government of Sri Lanka, implemented the e-Sri Lanka Development Project under which significant progress has been made.

Expressing his views on INFOTEL–2015, Chinthaka Wijewickrama, Chairman of FITIS said: “Visitors to this event can see for themselves and personally experience the newest, state-of-the-art technology in relation to computer software and hardware, Big Data, Mobile Computing, Cloud Computing, Digital Signature and Computing Gaming.

 “As the biggest ICT-related happening, this event draws lakhs of visitors every year. It is the biggest show in the ICT sector. At INFOTEL–2015, there will be over 300 exhibition and trade stalls.  What will be unique is that the exhibition will not be limited to showcase ICT products and gadgets, but will be one of international standards and a meeting place for corporates, buyers, sellers, recruiting companies, career seekers and IT enthusiasts alike, the FITIS Chairman explained.

INFOTEL–2015 will also offer the opportunity for organizations the world over to participate in having their stalls and products displayed at this event. It is an ideal platform for ICT stakeholders in Sri Lanka and other international countries to explore and capitalize the new growth and wealth creation opportunities in the country, he said.

Chinthaka Wijewickrama further said that many reputed local and international companies in the sphere of computer software and hardware, digital equipment, ICT education and training, web designing, mobile phones, computer games, telecommunication services, electric and electronic appliances, media and leisure will display their products and services as active participants in INFOTEL–2015.

“Customers will have easy access to these products, services and total ICT solutions offered by these leading companies under one roof at this exhibition. They can purchase their needs and requirements under professional guidance”, he said.

In addition, special ICT-related professional cum higher education-based programs will be conducted at the venue for the benefit of university students as well as students at school and tertiary levels.

FITIS is launching a series of new programs with the primary objective of developing all aspects of the Information and Technology sector. The annual INFOTEL Exhibition plays a significant role and is a key feature of this ongoing endeavor.

As the main integrated body, FITIS is representative of many important institutions in Sri Lanka’s ICT sector. Sri Lanka Computer Sellers’ Association (Hardware Sector), Sri Lanka Software Industry Association (Software Sector), Sri Lanka Computer Trainers’ Association (Training Sector) Internet Services Providers’ Association (Communications Sector), Information Systems Auditors’ Association and Information Technology Chartered Association (Professional Sector) are the key institutions associated with FITIS.
