Senior officers attached to defence sector had told several ministers that the Terrorist Investigation Department had obtained a warrant for the arrest of National Thawheed Jama’ath (NTJ) Leader Mohammed Zahran on July 2, 2018, informed sources said yesterday. Sources said the bid to arrest NTJ leader failed with the arrest of TID Director Nalaka Silva some time later in 2018.
The B report number for the arrest of Zahran was 92358/08/18 and this has been obtained by Senior Inspector SI K.N.M. Perera. The charges against Zahran was promoting racial hatred through videos. Sources said the Ministers have informed the Prime Minister about the developments.
