State Minister Dilip Wedaarachchi yesterday said that UNP is to announce its presidential candidate next Saturday (8) in Anuradhapura in the presence of Minister Sajith Premadasa.
“The next president of Sri Lanka would be an UNPer and his name would be announced at the ‘Sasunata Aruna’ programme which is to be held in Srawasthipura in Anuradhapura next Saturday (8), where Minister Sajith Premadasa will take part,” State Minister Wedaarachi said at Angunukolapalasse yesterday. He also said that there were some media reports that President Maithripala Sirisena is to be named as the SLFP Presidential candidate while the Premiership is to be given to the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP). He said that during the last regime, the Youth Centre was paralysed by the authorities and was replaced with the ‘Nil Balakaya’. The youth in the country were in a dilemma what to do. School leavers were forced to operate as three-wheeler drivers under the previous regime.
“But things drastically changed with the wise steps taken by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe. He is like a God to me,” Wedaarachchi said.
