The report of the Public Finance Committee on the supplementary estimates presented to cover the expenditure heads of two ministries was presented to Parliament by committee member and MP Ashu Marasinghe yesterday.
The government presented to the House 31 supplementary estimates pertaining to Ministry of Megapolis and Western Region Development and Ministry of Internal Affairs Provincial Council and Local Government on Wednesday.
Parliament is expected take approve or disapprove the supplementary estimates today. When an expenditure head is defeated, the government has the option of bringing in supplementary estimates to cover the heads. The estimates will be initially presented to Parliament and then referred to the Public Finance Committee. It is then referred back to the House together with a report which contains the observation of the Public Finance Committee.
