Ven. Uwatenne Sumana Thera was sentenced to life imprisonment by Colombo High Court Judge Adithya Patabendige after he was found guilty of possessing explosives in a temple in 2010.
After having served a jail term of more than one year, Colombo High Court Judge Deepali Wijesundara in 2011 released Ven. Uwatenne Thera of Bodhirukkaramaya on a cash bail of Rs.100,000 and surety of Rs.1 million.
The prelate had supported former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka when he contested the 2010 presidential election.
