A future UNP government will safeguard the Sinhalese and guide them into the 21st century whilst safeguarding the rights of other ethnic and religious groups, former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said yesterday.
Mr. Wickremesinghe who was speaking during an election rally in Obeysekerapura said that the UNP always safeguarded the majority and the minorities. “The Sinhalese should be safeguarded as you get that race only in Sri Lanka. Sinhalese society has to be developed and should be made to fit into the 21st century. The Sinhalese need not worry over anything. They will give leadership to the nation while no harm would be done to Tamils and Muslims. Political leaders should see to it that rights of all ethnic groups are safeguarded,” Mr. Wickremesinghe said.
