The UNP will adhere to all health guidelines when conducting the election campaign, one of its candidates and former MP Ashu Marasinghe said yesterday.
“Our party is prepared to face all challenges during this year’s general elections especially in relation to COVID-19,” he told a news conference. “We are facing the election with the COVID-19 pandemic and our party had made much agitations on the spread of COVID-19 pandemic. We called for increased testing and also once again questioned the government on how it had utilised World Health Organsation assistance,” he added.

Mr. Marasinghe lauded the work carried out by Director General Health Dr. Anil Jasinghe and the security forces. He said the entire Sri Lankan population also should be appreciated as they have followed the health instructions given to them since the outbreak of the pandemic. Responding to questions raised by journalists as to how the UNP is going to face the elections with a division he said his party will campaign on the pretext that it had fielded a whole new team of candidates which the people wanted rather than fielding the same old persons.
