The UNP reforms committee has proposed to nominate MP Sajith Premadasa as the party’s candidate as the Prime Minister, a party official said. The committee will inform this decision to party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe this week.

This committee consists of MPs Lakshman Kiriella, Vajira Abeyewardena, Ranjith Madduma Bandara, Thalatha Athukorala, Malik Samarawickrema, and Ashu Marasinghe. However, MPs Ranjith Madduma Bandara and Thalatha Athukorale said that they would resign from the committee later.

Mr. Kiriella said in a statement that a full report would be handed over to Mr.Wickremesinghe with recommendations for a new outlook for the party.
