Leaders of several Tamil political parties in the North have decided to draw the attention of the UNHRC that is in session in Geneva currently over the government’s failure to implement its commitments agreed upon at the
previous sessions.
Speaking about their decision former North Provincial council member M. K. Shivajilingam said their representatives have already arrived in Geneva and hope to create awareness among the relevant stakeholders at the UNHRC about the state of affairs.
He said they will also arrange to forward their submissions to the International Criminal Court through the UN General Assembly and the
Security Council.
In addition they will make a request to the UNHRC to send a representative to observe the situation in Sri Lanka.
Meanwhile the leader of the Tamil National Peoples Front Gajendra Ponnambalam said by failing to implement the agreed conditions the government had again deceived Tamil people and stated that this deception continued since 1912.
