President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has ordered Cabinet Ministers to issue gazette notifications announcing subject areas and institutions assigned to their state ministers according to the Cabinet decision taken recently, the Daily Mirror learns.
Accordingly, Presidential Secretary Dr. P.B. Jayasundara has instructed all Ministry Secretaries to issue the relevant gazette notifications.
The government has appointed 35 state ministers. However, it is discretionary for the ministers to allocate subjects and institutions to them. In the past, there were instances where the state ministers were appointed without any subject or institution assigned to them.
President Rajapaksa has decided to place certain institutions and subjects under the purview of state ministers this time. Dr. Jayasundara has instructed ministry secretaries to act according to the President’s instruction in this regard.
In his letter to the Ministry Secretaries, he has stipulated the subjects and institutions to be kept under each state minister. He has also mentioned the Acts to be implemented through the state ministers.
