The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) and the political parties which represent the joint opposition have decided to contest the upcoming elections including the presidential election as a new alliance.
It said arrangements would be made to register the new alliance before the presidential election.
Party sources said mainstream political parties, civil society organisations, professionals, religious and multi-ethnic groups would be included in the alliance-making process.
The SLPP said it had made arrangements to launch countrywide political campaign so that the new alliance would win the upcoming elections.
