Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Puttalam District candidate and former Parliamentarian Ashoka Wadigamangawa (68) has died in a road accident at Padeniya on the Kurunegala - Puttalam Road yesterday afternoon, police said.
Mr. Wadigamangawa was driving alone in his motorcar which had veered off the road and crashed into an oncoming lorry.
He was rushed to Wariyapola Hospital but was pronounced dead at the time of admission, the police said.
The former politician was reportedly returning home in Anamaduwa after attending a personal matter in Kurunegala.
Mr. Wadigamangawa was a former North Western Provincial Councillor and former Minister of Health, Indigenous Medicine, Sports & Youth Affairs of the North Western Province.
He was renowned for his oratory skills being named as ‘Wayamba Ridi Seenuwa’.
