Rights petition by SAITM Medical graduates

Supreme Court yesterday issued an Interim Order restraining the intake of Medical Officers for internship until March 27.
Bench comprising Justices Prasanna Jayawardane, Padman Surasena and S.Thurairaja issued this interim order pursuant to a fundamental right petition filed by aggrieved Medical Graduates of SAITM.
H.M.Halpe and three others filed the Petition citing Director General of Health Services, Minister Rajitha Senaratne and Sri Lanka Medical Council as Respondents.
Petitioners states that there are altogether 84 SAITM medical graduates and that Court of Appeal had in an order directed to allocate internship of the medical graduate of SAITM the order has been affirmed by the Supreme Court as well.
They lamented that this order was not implemented instead government had decided for the intake of internship from the KDA Medical faculty.
They alleged the decision made by the Respondents are in violation of their fundamental rights.
