The government has worked out a roadmap for reopening the Bandaranaike International Airport for inbound and outbound passengers with guidelines that include the setting up of a laboratory to test them for COVID-19, Civil Aviation Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said yesterday.
He made these remarks regarding the inauguration of a new passenger terminal and an access road to the airport. He said arrangements had been to reopen the airport anytime soon, subject to clearance by the health authorities. The Minister said precautions would be taken to ensure that COVID-19 cases were not entering the country. According to health guidelines, all inbound passengers would be disinfected upon arrival. The disinfectant cubicles have already been installed at the airport. There will be arrangements made for social distancing.
