The Police Constable attached to the State Intelligence Services (SIS), who foiled the Rs.7.9 million robbery at the National Hospital, died last morning while undergoing treatment at the ICU of the National Hospital following a road accident at Bambalapitiya on Friday, the Police said.
The 22-year-old Sithum Alahapperuma was critically injured following the accident involving a defender jeep and the motorcycle he was riding at Bambalapitiya on June 11.
Later he was admitted to the National Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries yesterday morning, the Police added.
The driver of the defender vehicle, Ashan Tarinda Ratwatte (24) was arrested over the accident. Investigation revealed that the suspect was under the influence of liquor at the time of the accident. He was remanded after being produced in the court yesterday.
