141 arrested over election law violations
By Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya
When compared with the presidential election in 2015, this year’s poll concluded without any major incident of violence, police said yesterday.
128 complaints received; 169 election law violations reported
Police Spokesman SSP Ruwan Gunasekera said 141 persons were arrested over complaints and election law violations during the period of the election.
He told a media briefing held yesterday that no serious incident was reported during and after the election. “A total of 128 complaints were received by police stations countrywide while 169 incidents of election law violations were reported. The arrested were either released on police bail or by court,” he said.
