Several government and opposition MPs said yesterday the Archbishop of Colombo should be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for the role he played in calming the people after the Easter Sunday attacks.
UPFA MP Mahinda Amaraweera said there was nothing wrong in nominating Cardinal Ranjith for the Nobel Peace Prize way of a proposal.
Government MP A.H.M. Fowzie said the Cardinal was eligible for the prize for working towards peace in the country in a difficult situation. “The Cardinal showed the world that all Muslims are not responsible for the Easter Sunday carnage,” he said.
MP Mayantha Dissanayake who was in the chair when Mr. Fowzie was speaking said he too would welcome the proposal made by him to nominate Cardinal for the peace prize.
