The Department of Meteorology forecast showers exceeding 100 mm in some areas including Sabaragamuwa, Western and Central Provinces and in Galle, Matara Districts in the coming days.
“Several spells of showers will occur in North-Western Provinces while there would be evening showers in Uva Province.Wind speed can increase up to 60 Kmph at times in Southern Province, Polonnaruwa, Mannar, Trincomalee and Matale Districts and along the western slopes of the central hills,” the Department said.
Coastal inundation is expected along the coast extending from Beruwala to Hambantota via Galle due to the effect of swell waves. People who are living in coastal areas were requested to be vigilant in this regard.
Considerably high rainfall was experienced in several areas yesterday with Ratmalana receiving a rainfall of 54 mm, Ratnapura 29 mm and Laxapana 37.9 mm as per the data put out by Department of Meteorology.
