Cricketer Kusal Mendis, who was arrested over a fatal accident, was released on bail by Panadura Additional Magistrate Chandana Kalansuriya yesterday.
He was produced before Court yesterday by the Panadura North Police regarding an accident that took place on the old Galle Road in Horetuduwa where a 64-year-old cyclist was killed on Sunday.
He was released on two sureties of one million rupees each by the magistrate.
His driving licence has also been temporarily suspended.
Lawyers appearing for the cricketer promised in court that his client voluntarily agreed to offer one million rupees as compensation to the victim and Rs. 280,000 of the amount was paid yesterday. The Additional Magistrate ordered Kusal Mendis to appear for a Medical Test at the Motor Traffic Medical Test at Nugegoda and obtain a medical certificate and produce before Court.
