Drug kingpin Mohamed Najim Mohamed Imran alias Kanjipanai Imran was produced before the Colombo Additional Magistrate yesterday and was further detained till August 4 by additional Magistrate Kanchana Niranjala de Silva.
The Court granted the Colombo Crimes Division permission to detain Kanjipanai Imran for further three months under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA).
Imran was wanted by the Police in connection with three manslaughter, 15 attempted murders and illegal drug trafficking charges, was arrested at the BIA by the Police when he attempted to board a flight to the Maldives on arrival from Dubai, after the UAE authorities deported him and three others.
He was arrested along with Drug lord Makandure Madhush on February 5 by the Dubai Police in a star class hotel.
Earlier the CCD had obtained clearance from the Defence Secretary to hold the suspect for three months to question him under the PTA. The Police had also arrested Anushka Kaushal alias Gandara Janga, Amila Sampath alias Rotumbe Amila and Anderson Fernandez.
