The SLFP and SLPP will hold a crucial discussion this afternoon at the opposition leader’s office with the aim of finding a common ground to form a much talked about political alliance led by both parties, SLFP General Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekara said.
If the discussion culminates in a positive note, the President and the opposition leader will hopefully meet within the course of the week
He told Daily Mirror yesterday that based on the outcome of today’s discussion, President Maithripala Sirisena and SLPP leader Mahinda Rajapaksa would further discuss and finalise the pros and cons of forming an alliance led by the two parties.
“We expect to discuss the symbol and name of the proposed alliance today. If the discussion culminates in a positive note, the President and the opposition leader will hopefully meet within the course of the week,” he said.
SLFP General Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekara, his UPFA counterpart Mahinda Amaraweera and MP Lasantha Alagiyawanna will represent the SLFP while Basil Rajapaksa, Dulles Alahapperuma and Prof. G.L. Pieris will represent the SLPP in the discussion.
