The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) yesterday refuted media reports as claimed by Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) leader Rauff Hakeem that he was contemplating contesting the General Elections aligning with the JVP, TNA and Civil Society, groups.
In a statement, the JVP said Mr Hakeem had said in an SLMC convention in Kandy that the SLMC was contemplating contesting the General Elections in an alliance with JVP, TNA and civil society groups and discussion in that regard had already been started.
The JVP said that the statement made by Mr Hakeem was baseless and that it was only his opinion.
It said there had been no discussion in that respect and that the JVP was not having any idea of aligning with the said parties.,
The JVP said that it would contest at the General Elections with the National People’s Power (NPP) headed by the JVP.
