Defence officials said yesterday all naval personnel infected with COVID-19 were in a stable condition and recovering ‘very well’ while arrangements have been made within the Welisara Navy camp, in coordination with health experts, to stop the further spread of the infection.
An authoritative source told Daily Mirror that some of the navy personnel who were infected had not shown symptoms of the virus and they were only detected after they were tested. Tests are still ongoing within the camp, and till yesterday evening more than 180 navy personnel had tested positive. A majority of the patients are being treated at the Welisara Hospital which has been equipped with facilities to treat COVID-19 patients.
An Navy official said all arrangements have been made to separate the groups within the camp who had come in contact with the patients and a systematic procedure is currently in place to prevent disease from spreading further.
He requested people not to panic because all preventive measures had been taken.
