Former Prime Minister and UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday asked the people to look at the micro picture when it comes to the future of the country, whereas his successor Mahinda Rajapaksa recently asked the people to look at the broader picture.
“Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa had asked the people to look at a broader picture when it comes to the future of the country. However, I am saying that people should look at a micro picture.
Speaking during an election rally in Athurugiriya Mr. Wickremesinghe pledged to introduce a system under which people will be allowed to pay utility bills in instalments.
“The present government which initially said the people will be given a grace period to pay their water and electricity bills have now asked the people to pay their bills of three months at once. However, a UNP government will allow the payment of these bills in 12 instalments,” he said.
He also pledged to grant a package of concessions to people if his party is elected to power in August this year.
Also, he pledged to give a grace period of one year to pay back loans especially that of SMEs. Further, he pledged to restart Enterprise Sri Lanka programme if he comes to power on August 5.
“We will come up with more concessions and I will announce these in three weeks time,” he said.
