Communication equipment including 402 brand new iPhones was seized from an illegal communication hub operated at a house at Eththukala in Negombo yesterday, Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara said.
He said 17,400 SIM cards, 60 routers and three laptops were among the items that were seized while three suspects including a Chinese were arrested. It was reported that the suspects had converted the calls receiving from China as local calls, resulting in tax losses to the government.
SP Gunasekera said these items were discovered when the Special Task Force (STF) personnel raided a house at Eththukala following a tip-off.
He said the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) officials arrived at the scene to assist in the investigations.
