Residents of Hatton yesterday surrounded the Samurdhi office in the area demanding that they be paid the government handout of Rs.5000, which is a concession to those who had lost their livelihood as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The protesters complained that they had been waiting at the Samurdhi office for days hoping to be paid this money.
Meanwhile, Samurdhi officers said some would be paid to some of them while the others would be paid during the next few days.
