Former Minister Harsha de Silva challenged former Minister Basil Rajapaksa for a public debate on the steps taken by the government to secure employment of private sector workers.

“We are ready for a face to face debate with Mr. Rajapaksa who had claimed that government will assist private sector companies to pay salaries to their employees through Central Bank.  However, nothing has been done,” Dr de Silva said at a press conference.   “Secretary to President P. B. Jayasundara said the government would be able to save Rs.100 billion if the public servants forgo a portion of their salaries from May. We would like him to come up with a statement and reveal as to how much the government had collected from the pay cuts,” he said.

Dr. de Silva proposed a dialogue between the government, private sector companies and the trade unions to secure the jobs in the private sector.
