The printing of 17 million ballot papers for the general election began yesterday, Government Printer Gangani Liyanage said.
She said the typesetting and other preparations were carried out during the past week and subsequently the printing began yesterday.
The date of the general election was overshadowed by doubts in the wake of the fundamental rights petitions filed in the Supreme Court. However, they were dismissed yesterday.
The Elections Commission (EC) had earlier sent a print order to the Government Printer for 17 million ballot papers which began following yesterday’s court order.
