Four youths aged 20 and 21 fell to the sea while they were attempting to take a selfie at Rumassala, Unawatuna yesterday, Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara said.
He said two youths were rescued and navy divers had launched a rescue operation to rescue the other two youths who were missing. The two youths who went missing were identified as Nilanga Malith (20) and Ravindu Prasad (21) who are to be sit for GCE A/L examination this year. It was reported that the two had arrived at the Jungle Beach in Rumassala, Unawatuwa with three others to bath in the sea, after informing the houses that they were attending to tuition classes.
After the selfie was taken, they had been swept away to the sea.
The Habaraduwa Police said a woman and a soldier were also killed on the Poya Day last month when they were attempting to take a selfie at the same location.
