Four in a group of schoolboys, who were on an educational tour to Anuradhapura, had drowned last evening when they had gone to take a bath in the Medawachchiya tank, the police said.
“When these students from a school in Hali-Ela visited the Medawachchiya tank, some of them had gone to bathe in it, only for seven of them to start drowning at around 6:30 p.m. However, three of them were rescued with the help of the residents in the area,” the police media unit said. The rescued students along with the remains of those who drowned had been admitted to the Gomarankadawala Hospital.
The names of the victims were not received at the time this edition went for print last night.
