A suspect identified as Buhari Mohammed Rafik was arrested by the Slave Island Police in connection with the Easter Sunday bomb attacks, Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara said yesterday.
He said cash worth worth more than Rs.8 million and gold weighing 778 grams were found in his possession during the arrest while the Kattandudy Police had arrested another suspect said to be closely connected to the suicide bomber Mohamed Zahran Hashim.
SP Gunasekara said the suspect had carried out financial transactions with Zahran and found to have participated in several training sessions conducted by the terrorist group led by him.
He said the Wellampitiya Police officers were being investigated as to how the nine suspects arrested at the Wellampitiya copper factory came to be released on bail.
Meanwhile, SP Gunasekara said police unearthed a cache of explosives at the Kattankudy Beach. They believe the explosives might have been buried by the suicide bombers who had blasted themselves at Sainthamaruthu.
