Church has no issue with cremating Catholics who succumb to COVID-19, a spokesman for the Archdiocese of Colombo said yesterday.
The commission has declared June 20 for the election. However, some parties including Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) have moved the Supreme Court (SC) against it, citing EC members as respondents.
Meanwhile, the Attorney General (AG) has announced that it was impossible for him to appear for the commission. Against this backdrop, the EC is expected to discuss steps to be taken.
After the meeting, the commission will meet representatives of political parties that are aligned with the main parties to contest the election. “We will meet the alliance partners of main parties such as SJB and Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP). Representatives of these parties could not be convened at the last meeting because of lack of space in the conference room to maintain a distance of one metre between attendees in keeping with social distancing regulations.
