President Maithripala Sirisena will go ahead with the proposal to construct a dedicated military airport in Hingurakgoda, UPFA MP Nimal Siripala de Silva told Parliament yesterday.
Speaking during the committee stage debate in the House, the MP who is the former Minister of Civil Aviation and Transport said this airport will be of international standards. “It has to be on high standards considering the defence issues in the globe today. Some shout about the resurgence of LTTE but one must consider the developments in the globe with regard to security,” he said in this regard.
He also said lands needed for the expansion of the Ratmalana Airport have been already acquired. “We were able to acquire the lands needed for the expansion without any dispute following the intervention of President Maithripala Sirisena,” the MP said.
Mr. De Silva who was referring to the expenditure heads of Defence and Environment headed by the President said the latter had been able to achieve a great deal in dealing with drugs. “The Bak Maha Divuruma programme which was held on Wednesday was a resounding success as all politicians including the President himself, Prime Minister and others took part,” he added.
Further the MP said Sri Lanka’s exercise in the UNHRC this year was a success as the delegation which represented the country followed President Sirisena’s ideology. He said reconciliation has also been a success.
