The OIC of the Ampara Police Transport Division was arrested in Ampara in connection with an investigation into the Easter Sunday attacks.
Police Spokesman SSP Jaliya Senarathna said the suspect who is a Chief Inspector was arrested by the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) yesterday morning at Akkaraipattu in Ampara.
He said the CI was arrested on charges of concealing evidence on a bomb blast at Sainthamarudu on 26 April 2019.
He was serving as Traffic OIC of the Kalawanchchikudi Police at the time of the bombing. He would be detained for further questioning under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
At least 15 people were killed in the explosion that took place in a house in Sainthamaruthu during a gun battle between security forces and the National Thowheeth Jama’ath militants.
