UNP National Organizer Navin Dissanayake sent the following clarification with reference to our story on Daily Mirror on Wednesday, June 3, 2020 under the headline ‘Cant maintain quarantine laws at a state Funeral’
Reference to the a news carried by the Daily Mirror newspaper of yesterday (June 3, 2020), front page titled “Can’t maintain quarantine laws at state funeral,” your reporter has misquoted me and given a different twist to what I said. What I said was once a decision to have the state funeral was made (that of Late Thondaman was entitled to a state funeral as a former cabinet minister is beyond dispute) that the authorities concerned, especially the three armed forces ensured that the funeral was conducted according to current regulations of screening, sanitizing, wearing mask and social distancing. I also said that although the three armed forces tried their best, it was not practically possible to ensure these guidelines are implemented at all times. You can go through my press conference in its entirety. The headlines carry a different meaning to what I said.”
