Our healthcare system has been able to restrict the COVID-19 pandemic to the Kandakadu Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre, Government’s Epidemiology Unit’s Chief Epidemiologist Dr. Sudath Samaraweera said yesterday.
He said currently there was no threat of the viral infection being transmitted to the community at large or of a new COVID-19 cluster.
“The pandemic has been successfully controlled with some 500 patients still receiving treatment at the centre,” Dr. Samaraweera said.
Meanwhile, with the detection of 23 new COVID-19-infected patients at the Kandakadu and Senapura Treatment and Rehabilitations yesterday the total number of patients rose to 2,805 while 2,296 patients had recovered and were discharged from the hospitals they were being treated at.
