The CID yesterday recorded a statement from former MP Vinayagamurthi Muralitharan alias Karuna Amman over his remarks that he killed some 2,000 to 3,000 Sri Lankan soldiers in one night at Elephant Pass.
The CID is probing the incident following a directive by the acting IGP.
Though Karuna Amman was summoned to the CID to record a statement on Tuesday (23) he informed the CID through his lawyer that he was unable to arrive and provide a statement as he was not well, police said.
“When I was a member of the LTTE, I killed some 2000 to 3000 Sri Lankan army personnel in one night at Elephant Pass.
I have killed more in Kilinochchi. That is certainly higher than the number of lives the coronavirus has claimed in Sri Lanka,” the MP had said addressing a gathering at Navadinveli in Ampara on June 19 this year.
