By Yohan Perera
The Constitutional Council (CC) has accepted the resignation letter sent by its member Prof. Jayantha Dhanapala, Parliament sources said yesterday.
They said Prof. Dhanapala had informed CC that he had decided to resign from the council citing ill health.
He had also informed the CC about difficulties in travelling from Kandy to Colombo to attend meetings.
According to sources President Gotabaya Rajapaksa will have to nominate a replacement while Parliament will have to approve it as per the 19th Amendment to the Constitution.
“The replacement therefore will have to be made by the new Parliament after the general elections,” sources said.
