The petitioner has cited acting IGP C.D. Wickramaratne, Kurunegala HQI Kapila Adikari, Director General of Archaeology, Prof. Senarath Dissanayake, the Kurunegala Mayor Thushara Sanjeewa, the Kurunegala Municipal Council and the Attorney General as respondents.
The petitioner said the King’s Court (Raja Sabhawa) had been built by King Buvanekabahu II who reigned in the Kurunegala Kingdom from 1293 to 302.
He alleged that Kurunegala Mayor Thushara Sanjeewa had demolished a part of the King’s Court on July 14 and that the police had failed to take necessary legal action against those responsible for the demolition even after a written complaint was lodged with the Kurunegala Police in this regard.
