Students who sit for the GCE A/L examination this year will be allowed to use calculators for the first time in history, Commissioner General of Examinations B. Sanath Pujitha said yesterday.
Accordingly, the calculators will be given in the areas of Accounting, Engineering Technology, Biotechnology Engineering and IT streams.
The Commissioner-General said the students only will be allowed to use non-programmable calculators and that the use of scientific calculators will not be permitted.
“Use of non-programmable calculators were first given to the candidates who appeared for the Sri Lanka Accountants’ Service examination held in March,” he said.
The Commissioner-General said that this facility would be introduced to other candidates as well from next year, following a study on other subjects.
