The Attorney General has indicted former magistrate Thilina Gamage and three others in the High Court on charges of rearing an elephant without a valid license in contravention of the Public Property and Fauna and Flora Act.
The other suspects are: M.B.C.B. Yatawara, H. Priyanka Sanjeewani and P.F. Upali Padmasiri.
The former magistrate is alleged to have reared an elephant without a valid license and conspired with the other suspects to obtain a forged license from the Wild Life Department. The prosecution said the registration of the elephant was allegedly obtained after capturing its capture.
The elephant is valued at Rs.6.9 million.
