The Attorney General has instructed the Acting IGP to launch a comprehensive investigation into the destruction of Buwaneka Hotel Building in Kurunegala, AG’s Coordinating Officer State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne said.
She said the direction was made after consultation with the police, Director General of Archaeology and Director General of Building Research Origination (NBRO).
She said the AG also directed the Acting IGP to move the court to obtain expert opinion from the Director Generals of Archaeology and NBRO.
State Counsel Jayaratne said the Acting IGP was directed to provide police protection to the demolished site and to obtain CCTV footage from the surrounding buildings to ascertain whether the incident was picked up by the close circuit cameras.
The AG has also instructed the Acting IGP to submit complete investigation report before July 31.
