The 33 Sri Lankan students airlifted from Wuhan in China and quarantined at the Diyatalawa Military Hospital (DMH) to check for any coronavirus infection have been cleared and will be handed over to their parents at the Military Headquarters in Colombo.
DMH, Medical Officer Capt. T.A.A.T Tillekaratne said yesterday that all 33 students have been certified as safe for release.
“The Sri Lanka Army will hand over the students to their parents at the Army Head Quarters after a small ceremony. We dispatched them to Army Headquarters in Colombo this morning,” he said.
Meanwhile, Chief Epidemiologist Dr, Sudath Samarajeewa said eight patients were being still kept under medical observation at the Infectious Diseases Hospital in Angoda; four at the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital; one at the Kurunegala General Hospital and two at the Gampaha District Hospital.
The number of deaths from the coronavirus had risen to 1,384 by noon yesterday while those infected had risen to 64,452 .
